Our school is a Title 1 campus, serving approximately 520 incredible, creative, enthusiastic learners! We have a high poverty percentage, with 100% of our students receiving free/reduced lunches. Many of our students depend on us to be a haven of safety, consistency, and a place of supportive and stable adults; traits many of them do not experience in their home lives.
Despite these challenges, our students persevere in their innovation and creativity, not letting boundaries stop them.
Our school strives to provide a supportive, engaging environment where students can reach their maximum potential. It celebrates abilities and believes in the possibilities of students. My classroom is a place that celebrates this diversity and explores our world through music, dance, and play!
My Project
Boomwhackers are lightweight, bright, affordable plastic tubes tuned to melodic pitches. Used and loved by students as young as kindergarten all the way to professional groups such as the Louis Cage Percussion, these instruments delight musicians of all ages. Boomwhackers are used by music teachers all over to teach fundamentals of rhythm, melody, harmony, and ensemble playing. They're the perfect tool for the elementary music room for their ease of use, durability, and affordability. Not to mention how excited students get over their "whack-ability"!
Students gain valuable skills through the ability to make music in an ensemble.
Boomwhackers allow students to develop teamwork and listening. They reinforce musical concepts such as steady beat, melody, harmony, and rhythm. Above all, they're fun and create joy! They provide musicians of all ages the chance to relax, have a blast, and make music together.
