Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are fun-loving, smart and hardworking! Our students come from all across the city to participate in the unique, ELL (English Language Learner) and ASD program specific for grades 6-8.
My students come from all different backgrounds to create a positive learning environment, where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and create works of art.
It is truly a unique urban setting.
Students at our middle school take an art class for an entire school year as a required elective and specials class and range in different skill levels and abilities.
My Project
Unfortunately during the shutdown last March, many of our classroom decorations were damaged or lost. Due to social distancing protocols, and sanitation reasons, many teachers this year did not decorate their classrooms this school year.
I am requesting bulletin board paper, storage bins, storage jars, Velcro fasteners and self adhesive hooks.
I would like to be able to decorate my classroom to provide a warm and welcoming experience for all my students this fall. Some of the items damaged last year included our word wall bulletin boards and the student art center. I would like to replace these materials for the fall.
My students have always responded positively to the decor in the classroom, where it was a very inviting environment. This lead to a positive mood, where my students felt comfortable not only with me but also with each other. Unfortunately, this year has been very bare and sterile due to the lack of materials. I would like to change this for next year.
One thing we are focusing on this year and the next is socio-emotional learning. I believe that providing a comfortable environment for my students will allow them to flourish in skill.
