Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class are beginning to love reading, developing advanced writing skills, and being introduced to new math topics. They are excited to learn and are very creative. They are also working on building a growth mindset. Many students do not have access to books outside of my classroom. We are a Title I school and all students have access to free lunches.
My Project
It is important for my students to have an inviting and comfortable learning environment. Many of my students like to sit on the rug to complete assignments or find a corner to work quietly in with a partner or small group. Creating different learning zones with a rug or floor cushions gives the students a special place to focus and learn. Also, some students need a space during the day to take time for themselves. A small cushion is portable and allows the student to quietly move to a spot that is away from the group. A welcoming environment can make a child feel safe, visible, and accepted.
