Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a wonderful group of 3rd graders on the west side of Indianapolis. My classroom is rich with diverse learners. My students are energetic, kind, and resilient. Despite challenging home lives, my students come to school eager to learn every day.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of our students' parents work odd hours to provide for their children. However, no matter what is going on at home, they always do their best when they come to school.
My Project
My students often arrive at school in the dead of winter only wearing sweatshirts. Many of my students come from large families and it can be hard for their families to meet their basic needs. I teach at a neighborhood school, so many students walk several blocks or wait at a bus stop in the cold.
Giving my students warm hats and gloves as well as a blanket to call their own would mean the world to them.
They are kind and hardworking kids who want to do their best in school. Helping them stay warm in the winter will help them achieve their dreams!
