My students need to visit the Philadelphia Zoo, because it can help the students understand concepts that appear in PA Academic Standards and spark their curiosity to help them connect with the wonders of wildlife!

My Students
Our school is a safe place for many of our students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds.
100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
We also have a backpack pals program that sends food and snacks home to families over long weekends and holidays. Many of the students only have one parent or guardian at home and have many adult responsibilities. Despite their hardships, they are joyful, appreciative, and eager to learn!
For many students who attend our small school, this will be the first time, and perhaps the only time they will be able to visit a zoo. This field trip will provide students who other wise would not have the opportunity to learn about animals from different ecosystems around the world, while having the opportunity to visit America's First Zoo. The students will also discover the impact that they have on our planet.
My Project
The Philadelphia Zoo has been a hub of scientific inquiry and discovery.
The zoo is a “living classroom”, that uniquely supports our 4th grade curriculum goals.
They offer in-depth investigations of animals around the world. The curriculum-focused programs include numerous possibilities for 21st Century Learning in the STEM fields.
The visit will provide each student with authentic learning experiences, in a hands-on environment.
The relationships between animal and their environment’s will be brought to life by the Zoo’s incredible variety of species and habitats.
The students will be responsible for a post-trip project, where they will work in groups, to create a habitat based on one of the species they learned about at the zoo.
