My students need a DLP projector to enhance their college awareness at the middle school level and to prepare them for high school's push for college readiness.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Awareness is the first step in being prepared. For the future of many students, middle school is the starting point for preparing for college. Bigger Dreams. Bigger Vision. It starts today.
I teach 8th grade in an urban middle school that is 97% low income.
These same students come from homes that do not encourage education and often provide negative feedback to those students who DO want to be successful students. Most of the students have parents that did NOT finish high school and see no point in going to college. In the uphill battle I fight to create life-long learners, I must also fill the role of education encourager to bring the idea of college to my students.
My Project
The projector I have requested will be mounted in our cafeteria and will be used to provide a permanent display for college readiness. A looping video about colleges and the skills necessary to become successful in school will be displayed throughout all breakfast and lunch shifts. Included will be content area facts, study skill suggestions, questions to encourage reading, and facts about colleges and becoming successful learners.
Since most of my students do not receive encouragement to consider college from home, I, as their teacher, must do so.
This will allow me to affect more students than the 120 that sit in my class. I have found that once students have been made aware of the possibilities, they begin to believe they can dream bigger. They can have bigger visions. They want that added benefit to help them become successful. Please help me help my students!
