Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
Please help us replace some of the consumable items we use every year. My children attend a program with an outdoor education requirement, and we are requesting disposable tablecloths and gloves for our breakfast, lunch, and center times.
We are also requesting a cube chair, which helps students who have sensory needs and need encouragement to focus in a large group situation.
Items such as stickers and birthday crowns will serve as motivation tools to encourage good attendance and instill pride for a job well done. An electronic stapler will help in assembling work packets for the students. Earphones will help the children focus, and provide a quieter environment when students are using our class iPads.
These requested items will help my students with special needs by helping with sensory needs and allowing for a clean, sanitary workspace while outside. Thank you for considering our project!
