My Students

Being able to problem solve is one of the few skills that can be used anywhere and everywhere. I teach high school students how to solve complex problems by applying the engineering design process. While this sounds fancy, it can be used across any discipline. The approach doesn't change that much. However, my students are afraid to fail and do not view failure as a learning opportunity.

My class provides a safe environment to allow students to explore novel solutions that do not always succeed, but they learn from the process and gain 21st century skills.

Students learn how to communicate and present their concepts while turning their design into a tangible deliverable.

My Project

Visualizing the intended deliverable is part of the engineering design process. Students learn how to draw by hand, but CAD is where it is really at. CADing is a love-hate relationship at best and a Chromebook makes it worse. But helping students have the right tools can ease the stress and strain they feel. A mouse can go a long way in helping students learn to CAD. CADing is about visualizing and manipulating in 3D and the mouse will allow students to manipulate and rotate their object in space.
