A Trip on the Reading Rainbow

Help me give my students seating options, literacy games and a laptop to help improve small group literacy and close the reading gaps.

My Project

Vanderbilt University cites that 40% of students across the nation cannot read at a basic level with 70% of low-income students reading below grade level.

As a first-grade teacher it is my job to lay the foundation that will help bring these percentages down.

More than 98% of the students I service come from low-income families. Many of which are just entering school for the very first time. In addition to being economically disadvantaged, I also service newcomers to the country who are often the first members of their families to learn English.

With the stools students will have a place to gather with me for small group intervention, which will help me individualize their learning. The literacy supplies will give me multiple ways to scaffold the learning ensuring that all learners get what they need. The new laptop will help me research the best practices and most current techniques to help my students read. In addition to helping with research the laptop will help me keep up with their reading data to better monitor their progress.

By funding this project, it will give me the tools to tier the science of reading to students of all levels and the technology to research the very best practices and provide data driven instruction. Join me on this mission to close the gaps.
