A Trip Around The World

This project is fully funded

Currently I teach eighty 7th grade social studies and math students and want them to gain a better appreciation for the cultural heritage and diversity that the city they live in offers.

This project will address the needs of our student population by offering hands-on activities and exposure to events and places they would not normally be involved in. The project will allow a unique opportunity for middle school students to gain a better appreciation for the cultural heritage and diversity a city like ours has to offer. Students in social studies classes will read and discuss the various cultures that help to create American history. Students will create a poster and present it to the class. We are taking our students on some field trips, but want to extend their knowledge further by asking them to research and create a display to share with others.

We are fortunate enough to be able to take our students to the History Center this year and the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, but resources are now limited and what better way to culminate an activity than to have students create a display of the knowledge they gained from these experiences.

The project will incorporate many hands-on activities to help motivate students to reach their highest potential. It will address the social studies standards for culture by comparing and contrasting diverse cultures. Students will learn the importance of literature, language, the arts, and how they demonstrate beliefs and values and contribute to the transmission of culture. By supporting this project, you will be enhancing the educational process. Thank you for considering this project.
