This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hungry to produce and save their writings and digital creations. I teach one course in which freshmen trace their own origin stories in this poverty-stricken, urban area. They analogize with the need to create a root system to make their mark, find a foundation, and bear fruit!

The students in my classroom, (and their families) have taken great care in selecting a school which can offer their children a chance to mature and flourish.

We are a stringently focused school which encourages exploration in math and science as well as the necessity to publish findings and insights. This urban landscape offers little for the children free of struggle. Our district is marked by one of our state's poorest areas. Our children have minds filled with wonder, hope, and imagination- yet, have to work twice as hard to achieve the same opportunities found in suburban schools. Are my students bitter? NO! They relish in the fact that their lives are more dynamic and filled with talents and dreams begun beyond their years! Help us help them publish and bear the fruit of their knowledge!

My Project

This addition of an Apple MacBook Pro to our classroom will allow students in my care to realize that first, their writing is worthy of publishing, secondly, that every thought journey that culminates in writing is part of what develops and clarifies them as a character in their own community. I impress upon them the need to emerge and produce strong bold statements about the world around them. I continually remind them that "they matter!" I also remind them that writing is a singular session journey. a solid piece of writing is usually marked by revision after revision. Save your work and come back until it is polished to perfection.

This project makes a difference in this simple fact- Students today, especially my juniors, are about to step out into a world in which they need to feel competitive and respected.

Here in our urban school, we are stricken with inability to keep up with the advantages of our suburban competition. The students cannot afford the technology, nor can I. Schools throughout the country are faced with budget cuts and shortfalls especially when it comes to our children.
