Help me give my students the hands on learning experiences that they need to succeed. My students require the use of physical representations of items to help them learn. The A to Z learning zoo will be perfect!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My classroom is a self contained Moderate to Severe Disabilities classroom. The school itself is located in a high poverty area and my students are mainly from low income families. My students are Kindergarten through 5th grade and are mainly non-verbal or have limited/minimal verbalizations. These students rarely receive services outside of the school setting, which makes it that more important for them to receive the education and services that they need at school! Most of my students have Autism, although I also have students with Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.
My students are very eager to learn and determined to do so despite the every day obstacles they must overcome!
These students learn in very unique ways and deserve the best resources and education that they can receive.
The A to Z Learning Zoo and Fisher Price Little People transportation sets will be utilized in small group learning. With the learning zoo, students will be able to match letters to sounds, match letters to letters, or respond to questions such as "what animal starts with s?" The transportation items will be used the same why with questions such as "who delivers mail?" or "which one would we use to fight a fire?" These items will provide physical representations of animals, vehicles, and workers to help engage and enhance learning for my very diverse learners.
My students work daily on fine motor tasks, listening skills, and hands on learning.
They require physical objects to help them understand. The animals in the zoo are the perfect size to help with fine motor and physical manipulation of items. The zoo and transportation items picked will help promote listening skills that we work on daily as well as turn taking. My students also use sounds and songs to help them learn and the items chosen provide this.
I appreciate the time you have taken to review my project and possibly help my students. They overcome so many obstacles every day and are eager to learn. They deserve to have every learning opportunity that can be provided for them!
