it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is my first time teaching 11th grade. Our curriculum establishes different themes throughout the year. My class will start the immigrant experience very soon through the lens of the author’s purpose. I would love to incorporate “A Thousand Splendid Suns” into the curriculum since the novel is filled with the author’s purpose, tone, and exigence. Incorporating authors like Khaled Hosseini is imperative and refreshing because he is an author my students are not familiar with. Teaching different novels and authors from around the world will help my students reflect on their own culture and that yes, they too can be that empowered protagonist they once read in English class.
