A Thousand Lives through Stories, Tales, and Fables

My students need a collection of tales, fables, bedtime stories, and rhymes to take home to read and discuss with their family as an alternative to using screens.

My Students

Our school will be entering its 10th year come this September. In our Pre-K class, that means over 180 students will have come and gone from this Pre-K classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after-school programs, and summer camp.

Families send their precious children to our class every day, for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.

Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in, and we hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love for learning.

I've been teaching at my first and current school for six years. No matter who enters through that door, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.

My Project

Do you remember the first book you read that made you an avid reader? First impressions are very important. I want to create a great first impression of books, for my students, so they are able to appreciate and love quality books.

The ultimate goal is turning them into lifelong readers.

Fairy tales, fables, classic stories from classic writers, and new and upcoming authors. I am requesting a wide variety of books so our kids can read wonderful stories in the classroom together, by themselves, and even take home to add to their own library. For most, it may be their very first book at home. I truly believe children who read grow up to be thinkers. Every child may have their own preferred genre. Those who may seem like they do not like books just haven't found the right book for them yet. I want them to find that book in our classroom. I want them to take that book home and make it that book that made them fall in love with reading.

Many of my students don't have the opportunity to visit the public library very often. Having books available, in our classroom library, will help develop and foster their love for reading. I am requesting class sets of collections of classic fables, tales, and stories for our kids to read with their families and engage in thought-provoking discussions

George RR Martin wrote, "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” I want my students to live a million lives and I want them to start living here...in Pre-K.
