Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach over 100 brilliant 13-18 year old minds and I could not be happier about it. Latino students account for more than 90% of my classes and all my students come from different socio-economic backgrounds and from all walks of life.
Every student, I have encountered in my classes, has already made me want to be a better teacher for them.
I can tell that some of them have never had a teacher who cares about them and almost all of them are surprised when I constantly tell them that they are important, that I care about what they have to say and that I love them. How amazing would it be to get these students the supplies and education that they deserve and need?
My Project
I decided to accept the position of yearbook advisor next school year and I am beyond excited to work with my students to see what they create! But we need help! We're a small school with Chromebooks and not much else in the art department. As much as we tried and wanted to, there was not enough funding to get my Yearbook students desktop computers. Thankfully, I got one computer funded but we still need another computer.
My students need more than just a Chromebook to create a yearbook!
A Chromebook unfortunately just isn't enough to use the programs that we want to create the type of yearbook that these students deserve. I've got a great group of kids ready for next school year, all we're missing is the technology to help us!
