Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so fortunate to teach an outstanding group of students with exceptional needs. Everyday I am impressed with the progress they make and I am constantly inspired by the potential I see in them. I teach students with various disabilities in a small class setting.
My students are creative, imaginative and eager to learn.
They are happy children who love school and are sad to leave at the end of the day. They enjoy art, building and technology. My goal is to challenge and instill a upon them a Growth Mindset and provide them with a classroom environment that is engaging and inspires learning.
My Project
My students are learning typing and basic computer skills to enhance their curriculum and inspire them to learn in ways that motivate them. My students have significant educational and physical needs, and a majority have difficulty with fine motor skills which impact their pencil grip and writing abilities. We have been going to the computer lab to learn typing skills, and it is inspiring to see my students who struggle with writing tasks find excitement and pride in typing up their work. During parent conferences, parents were genuinely impressed to see that their children were able to type, and their children were so proud to share their work. It would be ideal if my students could share their work instantly by teaching them and their parents to use Google Docs. Parent involvement will increase as they can use technology at home to work with their children to complete homework, review work from school, communicate with me online and see their children motivated to learn at home. Having the Chromebooks in the classroom would be an amazing opportunity for these students to develop stronger typing skills, computer literacy, and increase motivation in school and in the home!
