My Students
"Everyday is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day." Bob Feller
Everyday is a new day, especially those who are new to a country, or in a new environment. We can work as a team.
The students in our Title I Elementary School come from a variety of backgrounds.
Many of our students are English Language Learners. In fact, our school has one of the largest ENL (English as a New Language) populations in the city. Students spend most of their time in school, or at after-school programs, and do not have much time for organized sports. Teaching students organized sports helps to improve their self-esteem, teamwork, and English. It also provides students with an outlet to have some fun, and learn something new.
My Project
Softball is a team game, but a game where the spotlight can be on you in an instant. The spotlight began to fall on those who did not get gloves. With 26 students, we work together as a team and share equipment, but there are just not enough gloves to go around. I am requesting 8 baseball gloves. These new gloves, which include 5 right-handed gloves, and 3 left-handed gloves, will help support the first softball team in our schools history. As these gloves are purchased, students will develop an understanding of taking care of equipment, and learning the necessary skills to play ball. Students will also build upon their vocabulary, and communication skills.
By supporting this project, you will be helping to fund the first Softball Team in our schools history.
The purchase of these gloves will be used by the members of our new extracurricular, after-school softball team to practice their softball skills, as well as master the English language.
