Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I could have never imagined walking into school looking like the kid who didn't have the supplies the teacher put on their list. Making sure that my mom or dad bought me what was on the list was the most exciting part about going back to school.

Working in a school that has a 43% ESL population, communication with families is a challenge.

These students come from large families and are anxious to show off their new pencil, shoes, notebooks, etc, but what happens to those that can't afford to bring them in?

As these students continue to progress throughout another year of unknown learning, access to these simple items can be extremely helpful in feeling secure in the classroom!

My Project

As first graders, these wonderful and spunky scholars are still expected to take all of their grade level assessments. These assessments are all done online and require students to click and drag and use their touch screen to answer the questions. While most kids have touch screen laptops, there are some who do not and others who have a touch screen that is broken.

Providing them an option to us an iPad to complete the assessment gives all students an equitable opportunity to succeed.

The screen is touch friendly and small enough for their little hands to use without making big mistakes!
