A Table to Help Us Learn and Socialize!

My students need a table where collaborative small group learning can take place and a portable magnetic and dry erase board for small group work.

My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." (Benjamin Franklin) My students are curious and social 6, 7, & 8th graders. Their personalities make our staff smile and laugh, even on the hardest days.

My students are hard working and silly.

They are in the "branch" building, a building filled with darling 6, 7, 8th grade students and whether it is during lunch, switching classrooms, or going to the bathroom, socializing is a big part of our students' day. However, my students with diverse needs need more practice using their social skills. Our inclusive environment at our school provides many opportunities during gym, music, and lunch, however I would like to provide even more!

My Project

Being in middle school, I want to instill in my students the appropriate social skills when interacting in a small group setting. With the use of the horseshoe table, I am able to have 4-5 students interact with each other whether it be a social skills activity, cooking activity, or academic lesson. I strive to have my students be as independent as possible and this year I would like to push their critical thinking skills as best I can. The dry erase board is perfect for one of my aides to continue working on skills that are not yet mastered. With this portable magnetic and dry erase board, it can be taken to different parts of the school to enhance their learning.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by providing more opportunities for learning for my students.

With more opportunities to increase their social skills, I hope my students' will continue to wonder, explore, and question the world around them.
