Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in 9th and 10th grade. They sit each day in single desks made for much younger students. Our school does not have the means to get these students the desks they can truly feel comfortable in. This leaves students to need to get up from the desks often to walk around and sometimes leave the classroom to stretch their legs, which causes them to lose instructional time.

They are single desks, which makes group learning challenging.

My goal is to provide my students with 6 desks that fit five to six people at each table, where they can always work in small group settings and receive more collaborative and project based learning. This will in turn help the students to engage in the class activities and assignments and to stay focused on learning because they won't be so uncomfortable.

This also allows for various configuration throughout the year and adaptation to various inquiry based learning such as Socratic Seminar, analysis of the text, close reading and reading out loud.
