My students are beginning the end of their elementary school career. They come to my classroom with excitement and eagerness to learn. We build a classroom community that is difficult to leave at the end of the year. My students thrive on collaboration and the willingness to take risks in their learning.
My students are unique learners.
I teach at a Title I school where the majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I teach 100 fifth graders from a variety of backgrounds and all different skill levels. In our Science classroom, we focus on collaboration and creativity.
My Project
My students come to our classroom where I have tried to make an inviting environment, but our desks are making this very difficult. They are simply worn out, having been moved from classroom to classroom, and used by hundreds of students. Having new tables will allow my students to not be secluded in their learning, it will also encourage cooperative learning. Through cooperative learning, my students will be encouraged to collaborate with each other more often. Collaboration in today's education is key. When students talk about what they are learning, they learn more. Sitting at a table encourages them to communicate with each other more. This also leads to more creativity.
These tables will be used for small groups and larger groups, by simply pushing them together or pulling them apart.
We will be able to easily change the setup of the classroom throughout the day to fit our needs.
