Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school where many of the students are economically disadvantaged. They have all experienced much in their young lives, yet they are so hardworking and eager to learn. We recently endured flooding in our area and school due to Tropical Storm Imelda.
I will be teaching math, science, and social studies to two classes in third grade this year.
All of my students, which include those in Gifted/Talented, Dyslexia, ESL and Special Education programs should have the tools that they need to be successful.
I want to excite my students about learning and improve their math skills. I like to provide my students with experiences and lessons to encourage their success. It is important that my students are engaged in fun, exciting, and challenging activities.
My Project
I am requesting materials to decorate Valentine bags and piggy banks. The foam heart stickers and gel pens will allow each student to create their own unique bag to receive their valentines in. The rainbow scratch art kits will be a fun activity for students to complete as they watch their masterpiece come to life. The white card stock will become valentine cards for family members.
Children who learn to save at an early age have a greater advantage later in life.
This project will provide my students with an actual piggy bank that they can watch fill up and see that the more you learn, the more that you will earn! I know my students will love this sweetheart of a deal!
My students will be learning about financial literacy soon. Lessons will be taught on deposits and withdrawals, profits and expenses. My students need piggy banks to personalize and decorate at the end of our financial literacy unit.
As a culmination of this unit, each student will decorate their own personal piggy bank so they can begin adding actual money to and save for their future.
This will be the sixth year that we have decorated banks and it is always a hit! The Sharpie markers will be used to "paint" each bank. Students look forward to decorating day and I love the joy on their faces and how protective they are of their banks. My students make choices every day. This hands-on money opportunity will allow my students to decide what is important to them and spread financial awareness.
I hope that this project will help my students learn at an early age the importance of saving some of their money for future needs and become financially savvy!
