My students come from an inner city. We are a Title I school, which means that 98% of our children are on free and reduced lunch. The majority of my students are ESOL, so English is not their first language. I also have a few ESE (exceptional student education), who are visual and tactile learners.
My fourth grade class is a diverse group of students who are excited to learn in a welcoming environment.
This school year, I am fortunate to teach 45 effervescent students.
I would like to reward my students with sweet treats like Pixy Stix, Smarties, and M&Ms for their efforts, hard work, and academics accomplishments. Over the years, I have found that students are willing to push a little harder when they receive incentives for their hard work. Last year, I started rewarding my students with treats every time they earned an "A" on a chapter test, achieved a 100% on I-Ready (a computer-based learning tool), showed improvement, or were caught doing the right thing. I was amazed at how with just a sweet treat, my little Mathematicians were more motivated, engaged, and willing to take on difficult tasks. As a result, my students excelled on their end of the year standardized test.
My students are go-getters!
Throughout the school year, I set many challenges before them. Regardless of the challenge, they rise to the occasion and excel! You can help continue this momentum by contributing to our project.
