My students need books, such as The Best of Mystery Chosen by Alfred Hitchcock, with accompanying DVDs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Was there a book that had you sleeping with the lights on? Or a movie that made you jump out of your seat? Help my students understand the true meaning of thrillers with a collection of short stories and Alfred Hitchcock movies!
I teach in an inner-city middle school in NYC.
My students are in the 8th grade and love to read! I am excited that they ask to read independently, and each might be reading 2 or 3 books at a time. My students are in a competition with each other to read at least 25 books this school year and take a comprehension quiz on each book with a score of at least 90%.
My Project
We just finished a book that referenced The Birds, and I was surprised that my students had never heard of Alfred Hitchcock. They of course asked if we could watch the movie, and I said we first had to learn about Mr. Hitchcock. We agreed that we would study the works of Alfred Hitchcock and read mysteries and then compare how a mystery unfolds in a book to how it unfolds on the screen.
This project will allow my students to read books that are not provided by our school, and will give them an introduction into short stories, mysteries, and film history.
I have shared this project with my students and they are excited. They have never seen a live stage show. They now plan to have multiple bake sales throughout the year in order to raise money to see Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps at the end of the semester.
