My Project

Our middle school students have shown more interest in using our weight room; however, much of our equipment is geared towards older, stronger students. It is also utilized more often by our male population than our female population. The presence of yoga balls and lighter weight kettle bells will make using the weight room more attractive to a larger number of our student population and encourage them to build their strength starting from smaller, more manageable weights.

Studies show physical activity helps improve concentration, increases mental awareness, and promotes overall well-being.

Physical activity also encourages a more positive self-concept. An exercise bike is a simple way to release stress during the school day, helps aid in injury recovery, and could also be used regularly by our students with disabilities to help regulate cardiovascular health and positive behaviors.

The weighted jump ropes and yoga balls are excellent for building core muscle strength and improving cardiovascular fitness. These would be utilized by all students as they would be used as a daily warm up and cool down station during physical education classes. Providing funding for this project will help alleviate the financial stress of this positive venture in health education.
