Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are artistic, probing, and quick. They are engaged with new adventures and natural life exploits which are created in our music room. These escapades afford them the bridge to learn new skills. They absolutely love music class and all of the exciting rhythmic pattern reading, movement, music theory, singing, and vocabulary they learn each week. Music class not only teaches them music skills, but they learn reading, writing, math, science, and social studies through the different songs we sing and study.
My school has 97% who receive free or reduced rate meals.
We are in a high poverty area and we have a high rate of multi-family homes as well. Many of my students' home language is other than English. With all of the obstacles they face, the last thing students need is literal 'obstacles' in their way of making music. Any resources that aid in them becoming a more engaged music student, I believe will foster an environment of success in their general studies.
My Project
My music students are coming back to school and their health and safety as well as learning are my priority. The cleaning and music resources chosen will allow us to keep the music environment as healthy and functional as possible.
Beyond a safe, healthy environment, these resources answer the question of how to actively engage both virtual and in-person music students at the same time!
