This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle school diverse learners from Chicago's Little Village Community. My students teach me perseverance and resilience every day. Not only do they face the struggles of their disabilities but they face daily struggles in their community like violence, gangs, and poverty. And now they are faced with the unprecedented task of learning remotely or hybrid and staying safe during a pandemic! Yet they smile and work hard to become better readers, mathematicians, and scientists!

They love learning through doing and enjoy fun projects that can demonstrate their true abilities!

I am always looking for ways to make our environment comfortable and our learning fun and engaging, no matter where we are!

My Project

My 8th grade special education students hardly get recognized for their efforts and abilities. They have had a difficult year due to the many changes and challenges the Pandemic has fueled. Our Little Village Community has been hit hard by COVID and many of our families have been directly impacted in more ways than one. My students have demonstrated courage, resilience and compassion during these difficult times. I want their 8th grade graduation to be a special memorable moment.

My students deserve to be rewarded!

I plan on using these materials as incentives and rewards for their efforts and academic growth this year. The $25 gift cards will be awarded to students who have at least a 95% attendance, and actively engaged and participating in lessons until the end of the school year. This gift card will also help them get some needed supplies for high school. Furthermore, I will hold a special end of the year awards ceremony where each of my students will receive a personalized certificate, 2021 key chain and mask as a reward for meeting a variety of academic goals. For example, students will be recognized and rewarded for meeting their academic goals, improvement in their reading levels, improvement in math skills, being outstanding classroom citizens, improvement in speech, and so much more!
