A Space to Read, Learn and Grow!

My Project

The students in my first grade classroom love to work together! They love to read, play games and work cooperatively to learn. They are engaged in direct, independent and small group instruction daily. All of these activities take place in a common gathering space within our classroom, the carpet area! This is where we come together as a class to greet each other daily, to learn to read and enjoy storytelling, to discuss how we are feeling and solve problems that help us build a community of learners.

The carpet area should be the most comfortable space within the classroom where everyone is respected and all have a voice.

It should be the most inviting spot within the classroom because it is the gathering spot where we build our classroom community.

Our classroom needs a new carpet! Something bright and happy like the students I teach each day. Somewhere they can sit closely with a friend reading to each other or listening to stories, playing and learning together. A safe space to share ideas and learn from others. Somewhere clean , cozy and inviting where the students will enjoy gathering to engage in learning activities.
