Help me give my students a classroom rug so we have a place to meet each day for morning meetings, whole group lessons and a place for them to enjoy silent reading time.

My Students
I teach in a Title 1 Charter school in a lower income area of Detroit, MI. My kids are full life and love and we always joke around with one another. They are the best little people I know and I will do everything in my power to make sure that they get what they need in order to be successful.
Many of my students come to school tired, hungry and oftentimes do not have a backpack, let alone paper or pencils.
I am determined to make my kids feel safe and loved above all else. They are always full of questions and their desire to learn is insatiable. My favorite part of our day is our morning meeting, where I get to learn more about them and their perspective on life. We help each other grow each and every day.
They are the absolute best part of my job and I can’t imagine my life without them.
My Project
A classroom rug would be the first place my students would come together as a classroom community. Our classroom rug would be at the heart of our room, at the center of where all learning happens.
My students will use this classroom rug as a meeting place, a place that fosters routine, safety and a constant in their lives.
Many of my students lives lack consistency and safety at home, but having a classroom rug would be a daily reminder that they have a place to call their own at school.
A classroom rug would be an essential to our classroom routine. It will be used during our morning meeting time, whole group lessons, read alouds, centers and a place to sit and enjoy a book during silent reading time. My students deserve to have a place to call their own where they feel safe and ready to learn.
