Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a self-contained, autistic support teacher supporting students in grades 3-5 who are on the autism spectrum. Our school also has a 6th-8th grade class and is adding a K-2 class this upcoming school year. Last year I was fortunate enough to be given a space to create a sensory room where my students, and others who may need it, could go to take a sensory break, calm down, or regulate strong emotions. Our room has a nice carpet, some beanbag chairs, and a small trampoline.

This year I would like to add some decor, fidgets, and sensory tools to support students who are using the sensory room.

I have decided to go with an outer space theme because so many of my past and present students have shown a great interest in this theme.

It is my hope to create a safe and calming space where students can go to have their sensory needs met, whether it's for a quick break or in a time of emotional stress.
