A Space for Everyone!

My students need a place of their own on a classroom carpet. As a special education teacher, it is so important that children have their own space when learning in an inclusive classroom.

My Students

My students are kindergartners in a Title 1 public school, located in upstate New York, with an 80 to 90% poverty rate that fluctuates from year to year. As a special education teacher pushing into an inclusive classroom, I am constantly looking for ways to make the learning environment comfortable.

Our school is a caring, warm environment where students feel safe and protected.

We strive to make learning fun, interesting, and available to all students. Our kindergartners come to school, and for most, it's their first experience in school. We try to make their learning environment as comfortable as possible as they start their journey in the classroom.

My Project

The children I work with, as a special education teacher, are in an inclusive classroom. Many of my students struggle with learning environment issues, and I am constantly trying to think of ways to make their classroom more conducive to learning. One of our biggest struggles in the classroom is whole group learning time on the carpet in front of the smart board. This carpet with give every student their own learning space, and will help them focus on what is being read, shared, and taught while they are on the carpet. It will also make a comfortable place for them to sit, instead of the classroom floor.

This carpet will make a huge difference in the children's lives.

It will give the children a great place to sit and read, a comfortable place to be read to, and their own space when learning about math and language skills. It will also be a wonderful meeting area for classroom meetings and discussions.
