Help me give my students cube chair desk trays that provide the defined space and physical support to be part of large group learning activities with their peers!
Welcome to the world of Early Childhood: Special Education! My self-contained EC:SE classroom services 3, 4 and 5 year-old students with a variety of ability levels. While at school, students are focusing on developing basic skills through intensive small group and one-on-one instruction. My students have exceptional needs when it comes to acquiring information and developing their skills, which require specialized instruction, tools, toys and equipment.
My students are developing social skills which include being engaged, productive members of a large learning group, such as the "Calendar Time" groups they will be a part of in their Kindergarten years and beyond.
For many of my students, this means creating a space where they have visual and spacial boundaries to work within. Our classroom has plenty of cube chairs for students to sit in, but there are no boundaries or other spatial reminders to encourage students to remain in their seats while they learn. In addition, some of my students lack the physical strength or coordination to keep their bodies in a controlled learning space without support. The EduTrays I am requesting would be an ideal tool to support students of all needs and abilities in my classroom.
My Project
The EduTrays I am requesting will provide my students with the defined space and physical support they need to be engaged learners within the group setting with their peers. Students can use the trays to read along with individual books, support hands-on learning materials that supplement our lessons, and create personal boundaries to assist with spatial awareness among peers.
Often in our small group experiences, I offer students opportunities to explore concepts through hands-on learning.
We learn best by doing! The EduTrays will provide each student with the support and space they need to count out manipulatives, sort items into categories, or identify objects among a visual field.
