My Project
"Tools 4 Reading" has a wonderful kit of materials that follow the West Virginia Phonics and LETRS programs. It is my goal to use these materials to help my friends learn how to read and become strong readers. Phoneme and grapheme cards provide a visual aid and show students word patterns and specific phonics explanations. The lip picture cards provide images of children’s mouths showing the correct placement of the tongue, teeth, and lips when producing specific sounds. The handheld mirrors will help them ensure they are making the same formations as the lip picture cards.
These posters and cards will be used to help me create a sound wall, which has been proven to help beginning readers better than a traditional word wall.
The sound wall, picture cards and mirrors will be used daily. I must admit, have never implemented a sound wall before. Like many teachers, I have only ever used a word wall. As an educator is it my duty to stay up to date with the best practices to help my friends to become strong readers. The science of reading says that this is it. Please help me to help my future friends!
