A-SOUND-ING! Bring a Flipped CS Classroom to Life!
My students need to be able to HEAR! My middle school computer science and digital design classes are huge, and headphones are SUPER important thing in a flipped classroom!
As the most diverse middle school in the state, my class is an AMAZING place to be a computer science teacher! It's also giant, with 42 computers in the lab. The elective class often fills up to capacity with a waiting list for more students to join.
The fundamentals of CS and design are all about problem solving in creative ways, and with such a rich diversity of experience, language and backgrounds our huge 40+ student classes are a chaotic hotbed of creative making and innovative learning!
My Project
My Computer Science & Digital Design classes at our middle school are HUGE, and in order to best serve my students, I've developed an innovative "flipped" project-based CS classroom. All of our digital CS projects are on my YouTube channel, and the students create using them as a guide, following along digitally step by step, while I'm constantly jumping around the classroom helping students offline 1:1.
Our headphones have gotten old, started breaking, and we only have 10 left for a classroom of 42 computers, so we NEED your help!
The glue that holds a flipped classroom together is the ability for the students to LISTEN and to follow along with the project videos. Please help me make sure all my students can follow along in class to both the video and the audio!
Because of my work with middle school CS, I was named as 1 of 30 National Digital Innovator All-Star Teachers by PBS this year, and with your help I'll be able to buy 40 new headphone for my students to ensure that they won't be forced to read subtitles and they can continue learning in the best multi-sensory way possible!
