A Social Classroom for Social Studies

My Project

Social studies at its core is the study of how humans have interacted with each other and their environment over time. I want to bring this to life in my classroom next year. My students need flexibility in their environment and a place that encourages them to openly communicate. They will need to move around when they are excited and match their enviroment to their feelings as we discuss things they have never even heard of before. In Ancient Cultures we discuss multiple topics and work collaboratively throughout the year. Flexible seating will enhance our style of learning by changing their environment from a traditional setting of desks in rows or groups.

Flexible seating allows students the choice of picking what works best for them.

It allows them to feel comfortable in their space. I want a classroom full of discussion and collaboration so we can mimic the ideas of great minds like Roman Leaders, Greek Philosophers, and Egyptian Pharaohs. I feel like bringing the classroom to life with flexible seating will create an environment where this is possible. Please consider donating. The impact of an environment on its people is a fundamental focus in my class and I cannot think of a better way to model this for my students then by changing and enhancing their classroom environment.
