This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my kindergarten classroom are from a low socioeconomic area in a rural town in southwestern Arizona. We are located close to the border of Mexico. Some students have special needs. I also have English language learners and children of military families. They are curious about everything around them. But many of them lack educational support away from the classroom.
My kindergarten students are eager to be 21st-century students learning with a curriculum that promotes and supports reading, science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
My favorite quote is a Chinese proverb: "Do not confine our children to your own learning, for they were born in another time."
My Project
The kindergarten students are in class and learning this year! We are so grateful that they are back in school. Students are participating in a STEMS class that develops them in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and social studies. I am creating a project to extend the activities in our STEMS curriculum to include snap cubes.
Our youngest students need access to the very best materials possible to be creative and motivated to learn during their first year of school.
Creating, counting, reading, spelling, and building with snap cubes is really fun! Students will get away from the daily pencil paper activity in order to think out of the box and be creative.
