A Smart TV for Smart Special Education Preschoolers!

My students need a Smart TV and a wall mount to access apps and technology, such as YouTube, google, Google Docs and are capable to connect to the Internet.

My Students

Students in my classroom are military dependents and local residents of Honolulu, Hawaii. My class consists of a very diverse population. Furthermore, our school has a transient population due to the students with parents in the military.

My students are fun, loving preschool-aged special education students.

Students have different disabilities such as autism, speech delay, and developmental delay but they are eager, bright, and love to learn about everything! I hope to make their first experiences in school fun and engaging!

My Project

My students still require modeling when learning how to navigate the internet and use technology. A Smart TV is a provides an affordable alternative by enabling students the ability to view videos and movies, access the internet, display presentations, and allow for interactive student participation in the form of educational apps and games on a big screen.

Having a Smart TV in the classroom allows me bring the internet to my students without having to fuss with computers and cables.

I could simply turn on the Smart TV and navigate to a movie, video or website related to our topic of learning.

In Hawaii, we have GLO's (general learner outcomes). One of our GLO's is GLO #6: Effective and Ethical Users of Technology. I hope the Smart TV allows for me to model how to navigate the internet effectively and ethically. Eventually, I hope students will begin to navigate the internet with more independence.
