Our children have little or no school experience. Learning how to be in a classroom with 17 other children is hard work. Our children do not have the skills they need to manage all their big emotions. We want to provide our children a calm and quiet space where they can go when they are upset or overwhelmed. Many of the children in our class have special needs or sensory issues. It can be difficult for them to calm their bodies down when they get upset.
The quiet cube will give them a special, safe place they can go to when they need some time to relax and calm down.
I would like to establish this place from the first day of school. This will give the children the consistency and routine to know that when they need a break they can go to the quiet cube.
I would like to provide them with a wide variety of sensory materials near the cube that they can use to help them calm down. Each child has unique personality and needs. I want to be sure that the materials available in this area will help all of the children be successful. I feel that providing a large assortment of fidget toys in the quiet cube area will help to serve this purpose.
I appreciate you taking the time to read about our students and our project. Thank you for your time and support!
