My students need modern computers to help establish a math and science center to use online and free resources to improve and enhance their math and science skills. I am requesting Raspberry Pi 3 and monitors.
I am a first year, second-grade teacher in a Title I elementary school where 77% of students receive a free or reduced fee lunch. My students come from a background that does not allow them to see doors open as often as others. I can empathize with them on many levels!
Today's kids, like the ones I teach, are all saying they want to be YouTuber's, or make video games.
This is possible. But again they need that door to open for them. I want to be able to open the doors with your help. I believe I can use their passion to mold and help their dreams become a reality. I want them to use technology in a productive manner that defies the odds they face and refutes the stereotypes about out young boys and girls. My students are the most loving bunch of human beings. Many of them will give me their last fruit of snack to show their appreciation.
My Project
This is based on a very successful project of one of my colleagues to bring modern computers into the classroom. Technology is an essential element in a modern education. There are educational programs, application, and resources available at no cost to us. Free is always the best way, right? Unfortunately, these resources available and profitable to our kids if they have the right tools. We need computers that are able to run the great resources available.
The Raspberry pi 3 the solution.
It is affordable and designed for use in the educational environment. If this project is funded, we will have the means by which to make use of free software. Our kids will be supported by being able to learn in the classroom with programs like sonic-pi, Gimp, libre office, Gcompris, TuxMath, and Scratch.
Scratch is a computer programming software that 2nd graders can use. Thanks to Practice Makes Perfect I can use and teach this to our kids. Imagine we can mold the computer engineers of the future from the age of eight!
Furthermore, in addition to the huge library of educational programs, our students will also have access to many high-quality online resources. Some of these include prodigy math game, Star fall, ABCya, PBS KIDS, Khon Academy, Brain POP, and tumble books!
