This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every child is a reader. It is simply a matter of connecting the right kid with the right book. One of the best ways to do this is to introduce a student to a book series.

The students who attend our school face great financial hardships and many of them are English language learners.

They are not given the same opportunities or the same life experiences as other children. The teachers and staff at our school do our best to open the students' eyes to a world of countless possibilities. One way to do this is to offer many book choices for them when they come to our library. Because we are a high poverty school, we do not have the same available funds to purchase books as schools in more affluent areas. This presents a problem when trying to keep up with the latest books in a popular series.

My Project

Once a kid is connected to a book series, he or she wants to read all of titles in that series. Since many of our students do not have means or access to the public library, it is our school library that puts books in their hands that they would otherwise not be able to read. We need lots of books!

In our school, the most popular books are the ones that are silly or that are fantasies The kids can escape in the pages of a book for a while and not have to think about many of the circumstances happening around them that are out of their control.

Over time, some books in our library have been lost and some series were never completed. This grant will help us complete these series and bring the joy of reading to a group of wonderful kids.
