A Series is Worth a Thousand Words

My students need book series to help foster their love of reading through book series!

My Students

Our school's community is made up of more than 400 students representing more than 30 nationalities and speaking more than 25 different languages. We come from different cultures, and blend to create a loving rich classroom community that shares freely and accepts wholly. My students are constantly asking 'how' and 'why' questions, and I work as a facilitator guiding them to find their own answers.

The individuals in my classroom are more than just a snapshot of our school, they represent the diverse faces leading our country in the future.

When you open our door, you'll hear English, Burmese, Urdu, and French. My students are often spread all over the room because our Essentials Agreements allow for them to choose where they best learn.

My Project

Developing a love for reading is beneficial for students across all content areas. In today's classroom, students are reading in science, social studies, and math. Now more than ever, it's important that students are able to read the words on the page, comprehend, and decode what isn't explicitly in the text.

When students read a series they are familiar with characters and vocabulary, which supports comprehension growth.

Adding the different series to our classroom library would allow students to practice their different Reading Comprehension Strategies with familiar texts. Students fall in love with the characters and settings and the support in literacy that series allows can be transferred to the other content areas.
