My Project
I provide speech/language services to students with developmental disorders. My students are amazing kids who love to learn and interact with their classmates and teachers. They sometimes struggle with transitioning between classroom, changes to their daily routine, and controlling their emotions. These times should be used as “teachable moments" where the student can go to a safe space and learn strategies to regulate their emotions.
I want to give my students a calm cozy corner that they can use as their safe space while they work through their feelings and emotions.
The comfortable furniture, sensory fidgets, and sensory puzzles will engage the child and redirect their attention to a more positive and peaceful experience. Strategically placed resources, such as books and posters, will help the student learn self-regulation strategies in a relaxed environment.
