A Science Trip to Remember for Years!

My students would be honored if you could help fund our 6th Grade Science Camping Trip to Cradle Beach Camp for 2 nights.

This project is fully funded

We are a 6th Grade Class located in a city school district with financial burdens placed on the school district and the parents who send their children there. We would greatly, greatly appreciate any assistance that can be given to help us fund our annual 6th Grade Science Camping Trip that has been held the last 23 years! This two day and three night trip is science focused but it also promotes cooperative learning, appropriate social skills, team building skills and promotes physical fitness.

This trip is one that has taken place at our school for the last 23 years. Our students work all year long to earn the privilege to attend this trip. Students have to be in good standing in academics, behavior and attendance to be eligible. We conduct numerous fund raising activities through out the year just to fund this trip. We have found out this year that the camp fee has increased by $300.00 for next year. No student is ever left behind due to financial needs. Our students LOVE this trip. For them, it is an escape to paradise. They are able to be with their friends in a beautiful setting. For the parents, they are in a safe environment and supervised by their teachers. For the teachers, it is the most valuable form of education we can have because they see and learn science first hand. For some of these students, this is the only trip they will ever take outside the city.

We would be HONORED if we could get some financial assistance in funding this once in a life time trip for our students. We keep the students over night for two nights and three days while on this trip. We have to pay a two night cabin fee, 2 day dinner fee and a 1 day lunch fee. The chaperons who attend this trip, our teachers, give up three days away from their homes and family to give these students this great opportunity. We do this because it is the most rewarding activity for us and we greatly appreciate our students when we watch them smile, learn and explore the world around them in a safe environment! There is nothing more rewarding then watching their eyes widen and glow when they see a fish, deer, frog or shell for the very first time in their lives. It is priceless!

Words can not express how important this trip is to our 6th grade class. This trip has been going on for 23 years and we do not want to have to cancel it in 2010 due to lack of funding. It is difficult for me to put into words what this trip means to the students. Students come to 6th Grade knowing this trip is going to take place. We are the only school district in our city who does something like this for our students. I can truly say that all the students enjoy and remember this trip for the rest of their lives. One of the students stated, "It is a chance to really learn and escape the madness of everyday life while doing so. I wish I could just stay here." We would be most honored if you could help us make 2010 the 24th year our students attend camp!
