As a sixth grade English and Science teacher in a school in the South Bronx, I find that resources tend to be limited. This past year I was lucky enough to have a decent classroom library. Unfortunately, I taught seventh grade and that library will stay for the seventh graders. On top of this I will be teaching Life Sciences for the first time this year and have no literacy materials at my disposal. Middle school students are amazingly interested in non-fiction, and I want to have as much science and other non-fiction material at their disposal as possible. One of the biggest pushes for middle school English teachers is to keep students reading. It is hard enough when the books are in the classroom, it is even harder when students have to find books on their own. With a stocked library in my classroom, I will have a variety of books available to my students so I can have them read on a regular basis!
