Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Global warming? Diminishing energy sources? Overpopulation? Pollution? Troubled world economy? Our children will encounter a number of problems we just starting to consider and they will need to find solutions. Therefore we have to develop their awareness, thinking skills, and creativity; this training, as any training, need to start as early as possible! The science center I want to create would offer independent experiments and provide our students with the opportunity to try things out, visualize contexts, and invent new theories on their own. My public school struggles to offer the best to our kids who come from economically disadvantaged families. 75% of our students are African American alongside with Latin and Asian children. The only way I can get our science center is through a generous donation! Besides teaching my second grade class, I am in charge of science and technology education for all second grade classrooms. The center would benefit about 60 students every year... How many Carvers, Curies, or Franklins would we inspire? The center would occupy three desks next to our windows. The theme and activities of the center would change every three months to cover our curriculum (Life science, Physical Science, Earth Science.) Each trimester, groups of five students would rotate to conduct an experiment and report observation. They would select one out of two experiments and would always follow the scientific process. Children would visit the center after the whole class mini lesson and while others investigate the topic under my direction. They would have two sessions to complete the task they chose. The families would provide the notebook, and the school gives us kids microscopes and some books. I would buy the caterpillars, the tadpoles, the seeds, the aquarium, the butterfly net. A donation through DonorsChoose.org would buy the essential activity kits about force and motion, simple machines, life cycles, and magnetism. Together we would have built an attractive science center where young minds grow! I already thank DonorsChoose for considering my proposal. We won't form problem solvers if we don't train our kids to take risks and experiment on their own while being focused and organized. Additionally, this center would reinforce writing, listening, speaking, and analyzing skills along with social competence. Our planet as well as humanity needs us to become creative. Let's start.
