My Students
My favorite part of this school is the amount of diverse students we have. This school caters to both elementary and middle school students. We have a variety of languages spoken in this school. In my classroom along I have students who speak Portuguese and Spanish.
Our students are creative, outspoken, and dedicated to learning.
The middle school though can sometimes feel left out being in an elementary setting. They are going through life changes and often feel excluded from the whole school. However, they are always trying to be leaders in their own ways. Often times they volunteer to use their special area times to help in classrooms, read to students, or even lead small groups. They are everything I want to see in the future!
My Project
Currently our school does not have a library. I am trying to utilize the spaces that we have to give students the ability to read and experience a wide range of literature. Our goal is to create multiple book nook spaces throughout the school. This project is mainly for the middle school students. They currently don't have a space that is just for them.
I created these book nook areas underneath the stairs to fill with books because we don't have a library space.
The goal is to create a safe space that students can come to check out books independently. Already we have a good selection of books, but they are old and used. I want to celebrate my students by providing them new reading materials because as soon as they find a book they love, they are turned into life long readers.
