A Safe Student is a Thriving Student

My students need the assurance of additional classroom security. Our school is well-prepared for an on-campus intruder, but I would like to offer my students additional security that Barracuda Defense system offers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are creative, curious, and hungry for learning. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged, many receive student services, and many have had previous negative school experiences.

Our students use inquiry as their primary route to learning.

Our teachers are called "academic coaches" because we embody the role of mentor and guide (or coach, if you will) rather than the "Sage on a Stage" roll. The difference between a teacher and a coach is that the coach is on the field, cheering her team on, offering encouragement, and helping each individual teammate improve from where he or she is.

My Project

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is one of the most universally accepted understandings of the whole-child development. One of its key statements is that students must feel safe before they can be ready to learn effectively. Given the frequency of school shootings and other on-campus violence in the past few years, many students struggle to feel safe at school, despite the love and support their teachers pour into them.

The Barracuda Defense System is an additional security measure on top of the others our school has in place that is a visible reminder to our students of our commitment to keeping them safe.
