A Safe Space to Regulate and Reflect: Supporting Student Wellness

Help me give my students books, fidgets, and calming sensory tools that they can use in and out of my room.

My Project

At our school, many of our students come from low-income families, and some are also learning English as multilingual learners (MLLs). These students often face emotional, academic, and social challenges that can make it difficult to stay focused and engaged in the classroom.

This project will support the development of our SEL (Social and Emotional Learning ) Room—a calming, restorative space where students can take a break, self-regulate, and return to class ready to learn.

The room will include sensory tools, books and games, snacks, supportive décor, and visual supports in multiple languages to reflect the needs of our diverse school community.

By offering a safe space for reflection and emotional support, I aim to reduce disciplinary issues, increase self-awareness, and promote a positive school culture rooted in care, equity, and trauma-informed practices.
