A Safe Space: Sensory Room to Empower Autism and Wellness
Help me give my students with Autism a much needed sensory space by providing a sensory tent, squeeze chair, and other sensory tools to create a safe, quiet space for self-regulation and comfort.
My students are often navigating the challenges of autism, ADHD, and other sensory processing needs, and they are nothing short of inspiring in their ability to adapt, grow, and communicate in their own ways.
2) How the Requested Resources Will Help.
The items I’ve selected for this project are designed to support my students' social-emotional development, sensory needs, and overall well-being. For instance, the fidget toys like the Axolotls will help them regulate their energy during stressful moments and promote focus, especially in a calming corner setting. The Making Good Choices Match-Ups and books like "Just Now I Feel Angry" will support our SEL lessons, helping students build awareness of their emotions and practice mindfulness.
The soft modern rug and sensory tent will provide safe, comfortable spaces for students to retreat when they need a break, helping them manage feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. Items like the crash pad and sensory bubble floor lamp will create a soothing, multisensory environment where students can feel calm and supported.
Additionally, the BouncyBand Sensory Seat and chair bands will provide flexible seating options for students who need movement while staying engaged in their work. These small adjustments can make a big difference in keeping students comfortable and focused.
3) Goals for the Project.
My goal is to create a sensory-rich environment where my students with Autism feel supported, understood, and empowered. I want them to have access to tools that help them self-regulate, express their emotions, and develop social skills, so they can thrive both academically and emotionally. Having a sensory space is extremely vital for them. With these resources, I hope to foster an inclusive, calming atmosphere that allows each child in our Autism program to reach their fullest potential.
