This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are so wonderful, smart, engaging participants, and think outside the box which I love. I appreciate how they all value each others opinions and respect each others uniqueness. Some of my students have accommodations and require a plan in place to help them cope with anger, a bad day, or just need a break from learning. That's why I have created a calming area in my room for my students to decompress and rejoin their learning environment.
My Project
Stress balls and fidget toys will make a difference because it allows the students to have something to take release their anger without harming themselves or others. Having a calming area in a classroom allows students to safely and effectively gain self-control to calm themselves down from a situation. Having a place to walk off and let out steam by using manipulatives such as stress balls and fight toys, shows the students that I have built a safe environment and am allowing them to deal with their frustration in a healthy manner.
These items will be used in my calming area by students who need a break, need to release anger or have anxiety.
